Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before buying.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants like Claude and Cursor connect to external tools and systems. The TIA Portal MCP server acts as a bridge between your AI and TIA Portal, giving the AI the ability to read, write, and control your TIA Portal projects.
No. The MCP server runs entirely on your local machine. Your TIA Portal projects and PLC code never leave your network. The only internet connection needed is to your AI client (Cursor or Claude).
TIA Portal V17, V18, and V19 are fully supported. Older versions (V15, V16) may work but are not officially tested. TIA Portal must be installed and licensed on your Windows machine.
No — TIA Portal is a Windows-only application, so the MCP server must run on Windows. If you're on a Mac, you can run it in a Windows virtual machine.
TIA Portal Openness is included with most TIA Portal Engineering licenses. Check your license to confirm. The MCP server uses the official Openness API provided by Siemens.
Any MCP-compatible AI client works — currently Cursor IDE and Claude Desktop are the most popular. More clients are adopting MCP regularly.
You keep everything you've downloaded. After 12 months, you can optionally purchase an update subscription at a discounted rate. There is no forced expiry.
If the MCP server doesn't work with your TIA Portal installation within 14 days of purchase, we'll issue a full refund — no questions asked.
